A trans rectal biopsy involves having an ultrasound device inserted in your rectum and a needle penetrating through the wall of the rectum to take samples from the prostate. It is not painful but is certainly uncomfortable and undignified.
After the procedure I spent a short while in a recovery room and once I was able to assure the nurse that all was ok, I was allowed to leave the hospital.
I was given an information pack which stressed the importance of taking the anti-biotics which had been given to me plus taking precautions to guard against possible infection.
That was one rectal examination I was glad to put firmly behind me.
